The Faraway Tree series is great for young kids under 5. The situations are fantastical and age appropriate. There isn’t much to complain about. They are perfect night time stories.

Why are these only a kids books thing. I want a series that can be read in any order for my adult self. A Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, Magic Tree House, Boxcar Kids type of I know and love the characters and there seems to be an endless well of stories about them. I think this is why fanfiction is so much easier for me to read, and I love love love that I even have that option but I want these series types.

the 7 year old i babysit loves frog and toad. she can pretty much sound everything out and needs very little help reading it, plus the stories are genuinely really good so we both have fun reading them. you can get collections that have a bunch of frog and toad stories in them!

Did you read these as a kid? I did! A Wrinkle in Time is fairly ubiquitous but I was always fixated on A Swiftly Tilting Planet, where the gang ends up with defiant mitochondrial mice dancing a death dance around a sacred tree. They also go fuck around at Noah's Ark in Many Waters. The memory of these books are opaque to me as an adult and I plan on doing a deep read this year where I reread and then try to understand L'Engle's meaning while comparing and contrasting about the values I took from them as a kid. A very complex and readable children's series, low fantasy, soft sci-fi, shades of religious ecstasy.

Kree Jaffa! SG-1 is a unique show that I can rewatch comfortably any time. There is a wide variety of episodes to choose from and I‘ve always enjoyed how self-aware it is.
