And i'm trying to review the damn thing, but i get to "so long, london" and hear the chiming lil guitars and think "hey, you know what song did this that we really like?"

i'd been meaning to put aside some time to listen through marianas trench's new album haven for ages and what time better than while being absolutely pelted by rain in a red alert level storm! really added a fun little twist to the song lightning and thunder :P in all seriousness though, another bop of an album from them, my top three songs from it would probably 'down to you' (lowkey obsessed icl), 'remember me by' and 'haven'!!

ok there's a lot i like here. i love the LINER NOTES! the album was written as part of a song-a-day project that seeks to have been iteratively happening over 12 yeaes. It does feel like music that gets written when someone has refined their instincts. I feel like good iterative musical practice is as much about learning to steer impulses, and there's SOMETHING here that sings that. It feels like the gentle and magical result of doing the right thing because you've walked these paths before. idk. i love it. it also just sounds incredible!!!

the way this song slowly builds and then hits you over and over again like a wave with its bridge is utterly phenomenal. one of the few songs with a runtime over 5 minutes that really earns it this song feels like running into an old friend while walking through a secluded forest in the fall and then catching up over a cup of black coffee

And then stick around for the headliner so you ā€œget your money’s worthā€ only to see the headliner open their set with like 25 minutes of the most ā€œgets no hoesā€ music you’ve heard in a minute

We all know airports and flying are kind of an iteration of Hell at this point, so why not make travel fun? Comes with a bunk bed and feels quintessentially American, but the good parts (traveling through the country, power of industry, pre-made food). The coffee tastes like nothing, though.
