if you have to move stuff up or down stairs, get bigger boxes and fill them with more stuff. skip the small sizes entirely. fewer trips > lighter trips

For me, it would be easier to pack a box than a bag, butyou’re going to be schlepping stuff and bags might be easier. If you want boxes, ask your local convenience stores, and Trader Joe’s usually has wine boxes you can take. Also check Craigslist or FB or what have you and see if people are giving away their moving boxes.

I’m not sure what all the limitations are for you for transporting stuff, but if you’re walking a significant distance I also recommend buying a dolly or a shopping cart. The first is best for boxes and the second is probably better if you use bags. Both have future uses in them but a sturdy shopping cart obviously could be used every week if you live in a city and don’t use a car.

aka a box of all of the things you would need (stuff like a set or two of dishes, hair dryer, scissors, etc) within the first day or two of moving and unpacking. in addition to labeling boxes; that way, when you arrive you don’t have open all sorts of boxes to get those few different things!
