This film follows a seven-year-old child as they hang out at their grandfather's home all day. The adults are planning a big party for the child's father. Why this party is happening and the child processing this will leave you in tears. It's also an achingly beautiful film, thematically and visually. Really captures the feel of being a kid and feeling lost in the little details of the world.

Only yesterday!, sweet comforting and nostalgic, the credits make me cry everytime I watch it. The thought of seeing your younger self in awe/curious/dubious about your adult self… as I child i was anxious about the adult I would become as I could not concieve any thoughts about adulthood. I wished as I child I could peek into my adulthood and see, I wanted to know what I events I would remember and wanted to become nostalgic about. Watchind the scene in Only yesterday the childish innocence of her young classmates watching her embark on an emotional journey she thought she would never take makes me cry everytime. the fascination in her younger face, being able to witness something her younger self could not yet emotionally comprehend, yet being intrigued all the more, makes me cry every TIME!!!!!!

a Fundamentally flawed film in its awkward dialogue, pacing and arguably whole concept. however there is just something about it that’s so special – the uncanny nature of the practical/CGI effect combination, the childish portrayal of the monsters, the magical realism / coming of age crossover (never been a more goated genre combo). put this on and vibe out, maybe have a cry on behalf of your childhood self, listen to animal collective after.
