Solo guitar, lots of otherworldly echo. Serbian-American guitaristālived in the US for decades until he died in 2000, so maybe not exactly in the spirit of this ask! But seriously, this music is from another planet. (& released on the fantastic Numero Group label, which is a reliable source of all kinds of global treasures.)
wild guitar player, he has a lot of different types of projects - was also tom waitsā guitarist on some of his best earlier records. but this record is itās own special solo guitar record. equal parts experimental/jazz/intimate/soothing/dissonant
incredibly lush synth and guitar layers. thereās some herbie hancock and ryuichi sakamoto type of things happening at times. even some tangerine dream-prog elements too. lots of detuned and gooey feelings. you can feel the dust in the room through the recording
I found this album the other day and it feels so sacred to me that I almost donāt want to share it with anyone, butā¦ā¦check it outā¦
Italian avant-garde ambient realness. Your ears need this!
singular! hidden gem! overlooked!
I have been pairing my listening with open windows so that the cicadasā songs in Tennessee are in harmony and it is bringing me so much peace.
Many things to recommend this show: complex character-driven drama & moments of quiet contemplation punctuated by sudden & visceral violence; the most important characters arenāt always who you might expect (as in: men & colonial interlopers arenāt always as powerful as they think they areā¦); the way translation is depicted is brilliant & subtle. I could go on. A must watch if you love confident, thoughtful and surprising storytelling.
A meta-recommendation. At Goodwill the other day, I was the unsuspecting stranger. The cashier noticed my debit cardāit features an image of an audio cassette. (My credit union issues these to support KEXP, our local radio station!)
āI ask everyone with that card for a song recommendation,ā said the cashier. I gave him R.E.Mās āOrange Crush.ā So now this is a meta-meta-recommendation.
