Though Massive Attack and Portishead often steal the trip-hop limelight (and perhaps rightfully so), Sneaker Pimp's 6 Underground is the real unsung masterpiece of the genre in my opinion. Itโs crafty sampling of John Barryโs Goldfinger Bond score, Kelli Aliโs arresting vocal, and Nellee Hooperโs bombastic beat create an effect that I can only describe as novacane. I thank my father for turning me on to trip-hop so early, as it soundtracked much of my youth through middle and high school.
