probably the most impactful games i've ever played / that had the greatest replay value / set my tastes for the kind of games i like
- got started on sf v => currently playing sf vi - got started on civ v => currently playing civ vi - tf2 => fortnite lol honorable mentions to baldur's gate 3, hades, ssbmelee which are just a hoot and a holler

Open world games to lose yourself in

Fallout New Vegas Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 The Outer Worlds Disco Elysium
All are like novels (of varying quality) or something wholly new. And worth the gajillions of hours they take.
Also Saints Row 3. not for the easily offended (if you want to like video games you have to ignore the misogyny) but obnoxiously fun.
