-it's (mostly) free -low stakes, u can change books if u don't like them and just borrow another one! -gets me out of a reading slumps bc i have a deadline to read them instead of just being able to allow them to collect dust on my bookshelf forever -supports one of the few remaining free third spaces -finding paragraphs someone else underlined and imagining the person based on that -that hot pisces librarian that looks like german michael pitt and wears dress pants in the middle of summer. that's just my local library sorry

Benefits: - free - can try new genres without financial burden - nostalgic old book smell - short time span with book, forces me to read efficiently haven’t been a book borrower in years, forgot how great and exciting a trip to the library can be. many older books that you wouldn’t find in mainstream book shops. my uni has a whole floor dedicated to translated fiction- french, german, chinese, russian…- so exciting to browse and pick something other than a current best seller.

besides free books (physical, digital, audio) the amount of stuff u have access to is wild. i’m talking board games, sewing machines, language classes, coding lessons, cds and dvds (that you can rip and copy and kEEP - none of the librarians are gonna tell you shit for that), maker spaces, 3D printers, community events, ballet classes, movie nights, car repair lessons, resume help, free national park tickets, bat tours during october! It’s great! And for free?!?? in thIS economy? Literally why pay for a coworking space when the library is Right there, with free wifi and quiet rooms all to yourself. And if there are things you don’t see offered but want to? Ask! Or even better, offer!! Start your own thing, get to know your community members. Utilize your third spaces, they’re great!!

I already hate driving, so I love that it takes roughly the same amount of time to take the bus or light-rail directly to the library. plus, the walk to and from my house to transit is technically exercise and makes my brain and heart happy! there are donuts and coffee near the library, and an antique mall, and an indie movie theater, and a trader joe's, so like, endless activities and places to walk to. & the library has plenty of space to sit and work, free wifi, clean bathrooms, and private study rooms. I can be introverted and quiet, but still be among my community and people watch in a safe environment. and then the best bonus: free books! you mean to tell me that learning and pleasure and literature and poetry is all at my fingertips?? for absolutely free?? you kiddin me????? (attaching my most recent library books that I just finished)

i have a huge collection of digital music still on my hard drive from when i was a heavy pirate bay user in the 2000s/2010s + copied my now lost cd collection. but my computer is too old to be compatible w my iphone so i had to switch to spotify. as soon as i can use my library again my plan is to put the money i would use for spotify in a lil jar and use that to buy cds instead. also, i used to always carry a usb stick on my keychain and whenever friends were playing cool music i would ask if i could copy it. borrow ur friends cds! buy random cds at flea markets! borrow cds from the library and copy them to your computer! tbh choosing what to listen to every time on streaming gives me brain fatigue. i remember it was very soothing to organize my collection and know that i could play it on shuffle and always find something interesting.

in my mind hilary duff or her producer listened to portishead once and then made this song that's fr giving 90s trip hop in the beginning and olivia rodrigo in the end??? ft. wholesome uplifting lyrics about how it's ok to be workin' it out?!?!?! easily one of her best songs ever. honorable mention for fellow hilary bop, perfect for nostalgic bike rides: "so yesterday". and ofc the icon, the moment, the anthem that are the songs: "come clean", "what dreams are made of" and "why not"
