i love doing this but i recently tried doing the “personal item and small suitcase” thing in france and they weighed it before security on a comical bright red scale with one of the big round things that shows the weight. then they started speaking french at me so fast i had to ask for english… they eventually made me check everything and it cost an absurd amount to check my bags that late it was like 60€
I travel a lot and as a chronic ADHD overpacker whose instincts are to pack half my closet, I’ve made it a practice in the last year or so to not check a bag for trips shorter than a week. I think Tik Tok made me do it??? That said, the bag is essential, and *luxury* carry-on options are overrated and not practical. This weekender changed my life and has helped me to evolve into a meticulously organized packer. I leave the bottom empty if possible to pack anything I get while traveling; I put my toiletries, electronics, and purse inside the main pocket, and it balances perfectly on any roller. I think I get a week of my life back a year by not checking luggage and waiting for it.
