Whether through journaling or meditation or conversation with someone or prayer or whatever you decide to do, it’s really grounding to sit and choose to be thankful for the things, people, and opportunities in your life. It’s nice to reflect on how far you’ve come. It’s good to appreciate that you’re alive and have things worth living for. The ancient cultures would call something like this a discipline, and the idea is that by habitually practicing it it’ll shape your way of thinking and living. The goal isn’t the choice of & formation of the habit (journal, prayer, etc.), that’s just the means by which you arrive at gratitude. Try it out! Maybe the customs of older spiritual beliefs may actually hold some type of truth & benefit to our lives.

I actually saw a recommendation on here for a fantastic video from Christopher Germer on YT. Upon further exploration of his channel I learnt about loving kindness meditations. I did a guided loving kindness meditation from him channel and It was a really beautiful and healing experience that left me feeling happy and grateful. I downloaded the calm app and have now been meditating daily and writing down what I’m grateful for. Would highly recommend

Doing something with some type of cadence. It brings a feeling of alignment. Noticing variation over time. Maybe it’s in service to something outside your self, who knows!

There are so many guided meditations out there (I have hundreds of my own out there on YT and Insight Timer) but when you’re just beginning the process, simply listen. Sit outside in a comfy place and really focus on your ears and listening. notice all the layers of sounds around you. Then you can start noticing what you are seeing, even with eyes closed. Then smell, taste, and simply feel. And BREATHE. feel your lungs breathing and watch your breath the same way you watch waves. witness your own nature the same way you witness any other thing in nature. Open all the senses to your unique perception of the world at this moment, which will always be unique and noteworthy. There will be much noise in your mind saying lots of stuff maybe like ā€œthis is pointlessā€ and the such, but each time you hear a judgey thought, flip it to curiosity- ā€œcould there be a point to sitting here and opening all my sensesā€ There is a GREAT power in experiencing the world and your life as it is. We aren’t meant to change everything or fix every problem with ā€œlove and lightā€ through meditation. We are just meant to remember, acknowledge, and accept that deep sense of awe and love that is beneath everything. Beneath allllll the noise. that’s all there is. We are meant to simply experience the wonder of whatever this wild wacky wonderful world is. it has been created in a marvelous way and we can join in the dance however we can 🪩

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight. In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup). Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
