Hotdogs out of a cart attached to a man’s bike? Yes please. Tamales sold out of a woman’s van in the grocery store parking lot? I’ll take a dozen. Nam Khao from a tent outside the Buddhist temple? Absolutely. The threat of possible food poisoning does not deter the adventurous spirit when there’s the glimmering hope of finding something truly special.

I'm pretty sure these dogs are most rice flour and red dye no. 3 but they taste so good. The vendor tosses them into a boiling pot of oil to cook them and serves them to you in a clear plastic sleeve. Then you squirt whatever sauce you want into the bag (sriracha is the move). They're soft and almost creamy.

nothing speaks to me like quite like the american hot dog. meat of indeterminate origin nestled in a soft bun so pumped full of chemicals it won’t start to mould until you notice it still packaged in the back of your cupboard two months later.
when i was a child i was in awe of the hot dog vendor peddling his wares from street corners. in new zealand we have something called a sausage sizzle, which is NOT the same. these often take place outside of a hardware store, cost a gold coin, and are typically a fundraiser. did i care about charity as a child? no! i cared about the fact that this was a different kind of sausage wrapped in a slice of white bread and drizzled with tomato sauce. i thought this was an absolute disgrace, and a mockery to the profession of hot dog making. i wanted a frankfurter in a bun, slathered with ketchup and mustard, paid for with a crumpled up $1 bill.
long live the american hot dog. though i’m a vegetarian now so it’s not quite the same.

In summer, it seems like the default is to fire up the grill for some burgers, but I’m full in on hot dogs. give me 2 dogs and an ice cold bud in a koozie. I also have a local hot dog truck, Grumpy’s Dogs, that has all the food truck style dogs, whether its a mustard sauerkraut or a pulled pork one, and I love to treat myself to the chili cheese dog.

Life is short. Set yourself free. Let’s stop playing these silly little games society wants us to play. Double text. Triple text if you have to. No one’s going to revoke your texting privileges.

all of my life I’ve been told I’m too sensitive. And as hard as I’ve tried to mask the soft underbelly of my emotional nature, the allegations are true. There are few things that are harder to hear from someone who is supposed to love you. Like there’s something inherently wrong about the way you experience the world and there’s a right way to do it that involves a level of apathy, callousness, and selfishness that is so out of character for you it feels like you’re wearing a costume. Still.. There is something defiant about caring despite. There’s something primal and human about it all. I feel the full spectrum and the full weight of whatever I’m experiencing, and I feel yours too.
