I never believed in guilty pleasures before but my god, I think I found mine. I never really liked the idea of guilty pleasures because even bad media has something of value even if it's just an emotional comfort to a consumer. But this show. The storylines between the cast can be fucking ridiculous. Everyone is insufferable and sex-crazed. Everyone violates HIPPA throughout the show. I fucking hate this Cooper guy with a fucking passion. I don't know if Violet is just as bad as him (I started the show from season 3 just because), but I'm siding with her just because he's that fucking awful. The show is a trainwreck, but I'm enthusiastically watching it. P.S. That Gabriel Fife is really attractive and my buoyancy in this sea of craziness. Even though he, too, is a dick.

Last week, I tweeted that although I have never seen Severance and will probably never watch it, that I was sure that it was a bad television show. It is something about its naked need for prestige, the amount of celebrities and gushy fake famous tv actors that populate the show. It's not for me. I will never watch it but I know that I don't need to watch it, since the entire premise is a farce. However, The Pitt is relentless, intense, unabashedly smart, television. Noah Wyle stars as the charismatic Dr. Robby and his crew is full of compelling people. It might remind you of ER, but where ER contains personal lives and romance, The Pitt does not have time for such things. The Pitt is more interested in how stress makes the personal life take a backseat. One episode featured an incel son, a sickle cell patient that warns people of the wonders of the sickle cell trait, which is prominently in black communities. Another one featured a runaway being treated for a STD, and then a man who punches one of the nurses, an intern who won't listen. Like, it fucking rules. Great television.

We all like to watch something cosy when we're feeling down, something safe that's always a joy to return to (for me, that's the first few seasons of Gilmore Girls and that one episode of Degrassi that Kevin Smith is in). But sometimes that just doesn't do it for me. Sometimes I need to watch Mark Corrigan fuck his life up in ways that make me cringe until my skull turns inside out, to remind me that I could be worse. There truly is no show more skin-crawling than the POV cringe comedy about the two most dysfunctional men in britain.

Two weeks ago, I went to the museum and fell in love with this exhibition. Calida Rawles is fascinated with water and considers it a space for Black healing. She often uses it in her portraits because of its cultural and historical symbolisms; as water signifies a physical and spiritual healing and historical trauma. These portraits are based on my hometown, Miami's history, specifically Overtown. Overtown was a neighborhood that was a thriving cultural and commercial hub that had been systemically gentrified over the years. The figures in these paintings are actual residents of Overtown and shot in the waters of Virginia Key beach (which was once historically designated for Black people only. It's a beautiful and slightly heartbreaking exhibition. A mixture of seeing a sense of cleansing/healing, but also being reminded of all those who were thrown overboard during the Transatlantic slave trade. A kind of haunting. I've attached one of my favorite photos (cause I don't know how to add more yet) and a link to her website. Her work is truly beautiful!

I just don't vibe with this album anymore. She has a great voice; I've heard songs from her newer albums, but I can't listen to this specific album anymore. Too whiny for me? It's hard to explain.
