writers block

i usually don’t struggle with writers block but as of late i’ve struggled to do my usual sure-fire fixes that work when i do have it. lately i look at my screen or paper and i wonder if i‘ve ever actually known words. i think it’s because i’ve liked a lot of work i’ve been writing lately which is leading me to PERFECTION PROCRASTINATION where i’m too scared to make anything i perceive as bad. i’m hoping a little writing break will help me chill the heck out

WRITING EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO

Before you guys ask, yes I’ve been doing the morning pages from “The Artist’s Way” LOL Real talk though, the structure of the book has been super helpful in structuring my own creative process, and one of the best possible things it’s done for me so far is to learn how to write and create, even when you’re “not in the mood” or you’re mentally blocked. On the days I can’t think of shit, I just start rambling about gossip and chairs and people watching (or whatever misc thing is on your mind) and all of a sudden a new project idea hit me out of some random association in my brain from years ago that I never touched til now Anyway yeah, GO WRITE AND CREATE EVEN IF YOU DONT FEEL LIKE IT bc you’ll be surprised at what finds you!!!

writing rut

This!!! Lately I've been in a slump, I've found that setting a 30 minute timer where I put phone on do not disturb, only have my document up on the screen, and write — not editing it as I go just write for 30 minutes straight — has helped. By the end of those 30 minutes I'm usually in a flow and try again for another 30 and so on. I also like collecting quotes or photos (I use Pinterest) that connect to my story. It's a way of grounding me back into the world and a source of inspiration. I used to commute 1 hour back and forth to work everyday and that time in the car by myself is when a lot of the building for my novel took place. So now whenever I'm in the car, it's reflexive almost for me to work out plot lines, dialogue, etc.
