just when people think they know u well enough do something completely out of character. think I’m a hermit? ok I’m going to a boiler room and be the clubbiest girl alive. idk it’s so funny to me
My fav thing to do when I go clubbing and/or bar hopping is to create alter versions of me. one moment I’m a dentist the next i’m a stay at home with twins and it my first night out since they were born 😭 it’s fun, entertaining, and better when you get your friends in on it. Who’s gonna call me out? No one 🫶🏾 (I also do light research to really commit)
one of my go-to’s is coming up with a scenario like “do you know someone with (weirdly specific features) cus i just heard them talking about someone and it sounded like your name” and i fully commit to the bit to the point where i have to consider cutting them off because it’s getting too serious.
i wouldn’t recommend doing this around your regular haunts, but occasionally i’ll pretend my life circumstances are different to strangers in customer service interactions, just for my own laugh. example: i’m buying 2 gallons of goat milk at the farm stand, the woman behind the counter says, “that’s a lot of milk!”, i reply, “i have family to feed” (i am unmarried and have no kids).
OR
i walk into a lamp to store check the price of a stained glass rooster lamp. the owner says ”135”, i say, “okay cool, going to go run it by the wife!” (i’m gay). typing this out makes me realize this will really only ever be funny to you and will only be fun if the false identity is so far from who you are. if you’re just gassing up aspects of your life then it becomes weird and maybe psycho.
when you walk around try to pay attention to your surroundings and take notes of what you see on a specific notebook. For example yesterday I saw: a spider eating a bug, a tiny black and white bird on the sidewalk, a hawk flying, a yellow flower I’ve never seen before, a red poppy, a woman with bright cherry hair, and a shoe-shaped cloud. It’s good exercise for the writers out there
one of my favourite ways to spend time is going to poetry foundation’s website and just clicking on anything - besides poetry, they have lots of resources and essays about poets or particular movements. I discovered so many great things doing this
I think the answer says everything about a person… ps. I still listen to those all the time
