Iconic.
This song -- her best known, and featured in my EP book "An Ideal For Living" -- is almost proto-emo in its articulation of heartache and existential loneliness.
Loose translation from French:
"My days like my nights
Are in all alike situations
Without joys and full of problems
No one whispers "I love you" in my ear"
Au revoir mon cher François, que ta musique t'emporte toujours vers le ciel.
my favorite â60s french pop singer. i found out about her at my high school job, but i didnât become as much as a fan as i am now until college. i absolutely love this song. her music just makes everything feel so romantic and cinematic. also i am just enamored with the album artwork. the whole album is amazing, definitely worth the listen.
this is one of my favorite songs by françoise hardy. if you donât know who she is she was a french musician from the 60s & 70s. bob dylan even refused to play a show if he didnât meet her first before performing, even said she was his ideal woman. this isnât my favorite album but this is my favorite song besides the classic âle temps de lâamourâ thatâs beloved by anyone whoâs ever watched a wes anderson movie. check françoise hardy out if youâre interested in hearing some 60s french pop/folk!!
The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God
"Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love)
I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot."
God only knows what we'd been without him đđ»
Hey tyler hopefully this doesnât violate some PI.FYI golden rule
But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s.
Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha).
For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I canât wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! â€ïž
