Like anything else that lots of people are telling me to do, I resisted meditation for ages (that’s my contrarian complex). The continuous search for purpose finally broke me down and I tried meditation, starting with short, guided practices on insight timer. This app has everything! Meditations, courses, music, trackers, and the eponymous timer. I am consistently impressed with the functionality of the app and the quality content that teachers generously share. If you’re using the free version and a particular piece of content really resonates, you can easily send money to the creator. Plus, once you get into it, meditation is like free entertainment, advice, and connection, all in one.
Insight Timer has to be the best meditation app of all time with guided meditations for any issue or purpose you can think of, a freeform mode where you set a timer and have it ring a bell when you’re done, or meditative music to listen to! And Clarity, formerly Thought Diary, is a delightful journaling, CBT, and mood tracking app 💌
My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
