one of my favorite superhero comics of all time. written by al ewing and largely drawn by joe bennett, the immortal hulk brings the character back to its horror roots, adding a cosmic horror element as well. ewing is one of the best comic writers of our lifetime. the story finds bruce banner newly resurrected, discovering that exposure to gamma radiation gives a person access to a portal to hell. banner (who had dissociative identity disorder even before becoming the hulk to cope with childhood abuse) finds himself no longer in control of the devil hulk, one of his many hulk personalities. the devil hulk has taken it upon himself to creep out at night and punisher evildoers, like the devil. this comic is an exploration of morality, recovering from childhood abuse, the role of the devil, and cohesively bringing together decades of hulk history. it got me through college. it means a lot to me.

today is gonna have a lot of comic book recs because i'm thinking a lot about comics today archie vs predator II is the sequel to archie vs predator. archie vs predator is a fun comic about predator hunting and killing our favorite classic riverdale residents. the tone is zany and bloody and fun. you should read it. but this is not a rec for archie vs predator. this is a rec for archie vs predator II. archie vs predator II is a direct sequel but also a tonal 180. the classic betty and veronica, after surviving archie vs predator, return to riverdale to find that the town/comic has been rebooted without them (between avp and avpII, archie comics did reboot the archie line to be more visually in-line with cw's riverdale while still maintaining the high school soap comic tone. it's a good reboot). i won't spoil the fun, but it's a good (if not overly-sentimental) comic about accepting change and growing up. i used to be a kid who thought i'd never be different from who i was in high school. and i have changed! and i really like this comic.

every few summers I have this unstoppable urge to rewatch the old infinity saga movies from the era where the mcu felt consistently good. Summer 2019 flashbacks during the mcu’s peak. Like even the cringey corny one liners in the movies feel comforting and peak I don’t know how to describe it. rewatch some of the better ones if anything I’ve rewatched/am planning to rewatch avengers age of ultron + winter soldier + civil war + homecoming + far from home + ragnarok + black panther + infinity war + endgame + doctor strange + guardians 1 + 2
