I’ve been revisiting the wonders of super simple games for when I don’t want to be doing what I should be doing. The fact that they’re played on a computer as opposed to a phone means that I can quickly switch back to what I’m working on when I start to feel too guilty. It feels better than scrolling, anyway! These got me through college long ago: Robot Unicorn Attack, so addictive not just in gameplay but in its perfect looped use of ā€œAlwaysā€ by Erasure (banger) QWOP, possibly the best procrastination game ever invented mostly bc it eventually becomes so frustrating you’d just rather do your actual work but until then you will keep trying relentlessly. Theres no better feeling than advancing enough to hear more notes of ā€œChariots of Fireā€ Pls rec any others you like!

I don’t know what it is about them, maybe it’s the music or the terrible graphics, or maybe just remembering how it felt to have so much extra time on my hands that I could sit and play whatever free/cheap video game I could get my little hands on and disappear for hours on end without having to stress about deadlines or sleep schedules. Sometimes when its slow at work I’ll play some of the old soundtracks on my headphones to pass the time :)

not too long ago, I made a list going of all the PC games I could recall playing as a kid. I wanted to relive those precious afternoons I spent losing track of time in the computer lab of my public library. I recently found one of my favs, Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside (1996) on Steam. playing it as an adult brought me so much joy, I can't even tell you. and the reviews on Steam made me smile so much, especially the one below (hilarious). I also realized that Pajama Sam is voiced by Pamela Adlon (Spinelli Recess, Bobby King of the Hill, etc.) which is cool af. so go find those games you used to play & travel back in time! I was shocked with how much I remembered. plus there's nothing like hearing those 90's sound FX, they just don't make em like that anymore. :')

I’ve done this every time I’ve found myself between full time jobs and it really makes the whole time better. You have a little money coming in and you can collect material for your future memoir. Some odd jobs from my past: Axe throwing coach Closet designer Lunch catering delivery Balloon bouquet maker Background extra i found them on big job boards like indeed and also Craigslist (Searching ā€œpart timeā€ gets you less garbage results). If you hate it after you start you can just quit! Also if you like pets, signing up for dog walking or petsitting will keep you active and you get to hang out with pets.

I love doing this, it’s wonderfully disorienting. Theres still so much day left afterwards it’s basically a whole new day, like an optical illusion, but of time.

Shopping cart with a bad wheel. Sock slipping down your shoe. The day after you burn your tongue when it’s still all sensitive. An eye twitch. bad toilet paper (thin, scratchy). clothing tag that itches. Really strong static shock that makes you jump. getting perfume in your mouth.
