I *hate* getting emails from companies, or from any entity that is not a person who actually knows me and has something to say, unless the email is *really* necessary and actually requires my attention.
I really don't want my phone to notify me with an ad, even for something I've already decided I like. You say no ads, but mailing lists are *all* ads, aren't they?
danhakimi oh i don't get notifications for promo emails. i can see why you say they are ads but at the end of the day it's my own curation and it's stuff i'm really interested about; stuff which if i didn't have the mailing list i'd probably have to look at in instagram, which is riddled with trash and is designed to keep you glued to the screen. mailing lists take me like 5 minutes a day to go through.
shaar I guess. I set up an inbox on omnivore.app so that the emails don't get anywhere near my inbox (I don't want tabs, I want one clean stream of emails). And then... I only use that for substack and a couple of blogs, but I might as well use RSS for that. I guess I could use it to sign up for brand emails, if I wanted to, and pop in once a year to see if anything that actually mattered had come up.
