As sloane_shark Has already said, Mitski’s is my favourite. But the Imogen Heap Tiny Desk is incredible. She basically uses it as a demonstration of the Mi.Mu gloves that she developed in order to live engineer her own sound with hand movements. It’s amazing to watch and so inspiring to see someone be so innovative with their craft.
I watched this for the first time at the most perfect age to absorb it forever. One of the most formative experiences of my life. There’s no pretense - never is with Mitski - but here her spirit is on full display. The most compelling performance is Class of 2013, wherein she screams into her guitar during the third verse, “Mom will you wash my back this once, and then we can forget.” I’ve replayed that part probably 30 times.
pretty sure i’m stealing mouse’s here, but this is an all time iconic performance… the way she combines her voice, the guitar pickup, the screams… unmatched
