showtime drama series that ended in 2014. metatextual romp about storytelling itself: the stories of imperialism, counter-culture, interpersonal, and our relationship with the stories we tell ourselves. queerness is central to the narrative in the deepest way—no mere set dressing. television writing at the highest level. what's not to love? (on netflix)
i love making lists on this app, here’s 1-3 from each platform!
on Netflix:
drama: queen‘s gambit (amazing soundtrack, wardrobe, plot)thriller/drama: breaking bad (worth the commitment, meets the hype)comedy: cunk on earth (dry humor, very funny)
on disney:
literally just andor - you do not have to be a star wars fan, watch the first 2 eps, amazing soundtrack (nicholas brittell!), & one of my fav shows i’ve watched in recent years
am*zon prime:
drama: fleabag!!! (u may cry)drama/romcom: modern love (all episodes are based on real love stories!!! )comedy: schitt’s creek (heartwarming)
+ if u ever do feel like getting into horror, the haunting of hill house/bly manor and hannibal series are all amazing!
We threw this on in the background on a random dinner night, and I got so hooked and finished the entire series the same week. The setup felt like a StateFarm commercial, except the narrator is Colin Kaepernick and it revolves around how he “navigated race, class, and culture”. You don’t have to be a football fan to like this one, it’s a great short series!
I forgive the summer for not living up to the hype, I forgive myself for not filling every second of my day with productive work, and I forgive the weather for being so god-awful for so many months. The weather is the only one who I know is going to make restoration.
the group mind that forms within dark theaters is ideal for the consumption of moving images. perhaps even better is watching them with a group of friends. i recently saw Little Shop of Horrors for the first time with a gaggle of about eight, and it was an incredible time. a joy shared is a joy doubled. and don't watch movies on your small devices for GOD'S SAKE.
feel i'm severely late to the game but i can't shut up about this guy. i've never seen someone so thoroughly representative of what it is to be an Aquarius. i watched his Shapes special and some Fantasmas and it's all so prescient and divine and stupid. gonna see his new film Problemista later today.
