Try to behave like a person that people want to work with. That goes a long way. Good luck!

Odds are you’re going to end up hiring the person you feel easiest to talk to and is relatively competent. if you put on a persona you’re selling bs to the person interviewing and not doing yourself any favors when you have to deal with this person more often than your family. Unfortunately it’s usually not the best person for the job because it’s hard to gauge peoples long term behavior and potential. but you’ll get a lot more done working with a like minded individual with potential than a stubborn chosen one

If you feel a conversation getting awkward, confidently connect with them about something… maybe you like their shoes or are intrigued by something they said earlier and want to dive deeper. Make sure you’re open physically to the conversation (arms not crossed, torso/feet pointed toward the person). Bring warmth and smiles. It’ll be fine! If it’s a new person at work, ask about how they got to where they are today. You’ll surely find some kind of tidbit in there to connect about.

Really great question because 1) it is very useful for you, you can get a lot of information about a place by how someone talks about where they work 2) it turns the interview into more of a conversation which is what you want 3) it always goes over well because people LOVEEE to talk about themselves, arguably the most important point. your interview is probably nervous too or tired of doing interviews. They love to be out of the hot seat
