As soon as I read it this became my favorite non fiction book. It was written in the 80s but I feel like it’s still relevant and gave me a new perspective about technology and our media consumption.

Electric technology changed everything about the human experience, McLuhan says. I'd never thought about it like that before. This movie, & the book of the same title, are wonderful & engaging. In our hypersaturated media environment, it bears repeating that mass media is a *very* new phenomenon. We, as a species, are just beginning to feel the genuine impacts of electric technologies. So even when McLuhan's personality gets pretentious, he still gave me a lot to think about.

The granddaddy to all cyberpunk media, and incredibly prescient given our current moment. Coined the term “Cyberspace”.
Gibson wrote this on a typewriter in the canadian wilderness in 1984. It was his first novel.
I finished it in 4 days after kicking it around for years. immediately moved on to the sequel.
Honestly prescient doesn’t even begin to describe how accurately this book predicted our present, and its future.

I was just thinking of this recently, of how oversaturated the internet feels. There’s too many platforms, content, and ads being shoved down our throats. I don’t know where the internet is headed but I feel like there is a growing general sentiment of fatigue.We’re also discovering ways to combat this fatigue, like lessening our screentime or simplifying our use of the internet (like this platform.) I would love to see this general sentiment dictate where the internet goes instead of the internet telling us what to consume.

I’m suddenly collecting cds again. I want to really have and own the things I love, and cherish them by listening to them again and again.
Instagram recently deleted some of our ig stories, and I realized that we can’t rely on these online platforms as our only way of storing our memories and media. I plan to go through old phone photos and pick which ones to print out.
