“MIND OVER MAYHEM. Harley Quinn joins forces with a singer, and assassin and a police detective to help a young girl who had a hit places on her after she stole a rare diamond from a crime Lord” I feel like comic book adaptions are great for this kind of larger than life stuff, with lots of editing and text etc. Natural Born Killers is one of my favourites too and it feels comic bookey at time! This film is one of my all time favourite comfort films. Im so sad that bad promo and sexism in the superhero world made this big dumb fun film flop. it’s so fun and cool and girly. imagine what could have been if Cathi Yan had been allowed to continue to direct DC films, maybe we’d have an actually good suicide squad?

So, basically this short film/documentary is about a group of school girls (they’re 13/14 at the time??) at a private school in California who are are influenced by the ‘riotgrrrl’ movement of the early to mid 90s. The sisters, Amber and Harper, lead this and one of the rumours spread by classmates is that Amber ‘hasn’t washed her hair since Kurt Cobain died’.Even though they are made fun of and labelled as ‘dirty girls’ because they allegedly never shower, they still retain their ideas and just try to be themselves surrounded by snobs and some who are just confused which I too understand. I find the whole concept very interesting, i highly recommend this to u so watch it if you want xxx i think that, because I wasn’t around at the time, the idea of proper subcultures really intrigues me. I occasionally go back and watch it, + it always makes me want to jump up and down to bikini kill. (it’s on YouTube by the way- just remembered I can link it so I will) Ps. The soundtrack, ‘Batmobile’ liz phair, is great too. I fucking love the girly sound demos. Pps. even if you think the riot grrl movement is flawed (which it was in many ways)I still think anyone would enjoy the documentary, even someone completely unaware of the culture around the bands of that era. Ok bye, just realised I’ve written loads and if you cba reading this I don’t blame you.

saw it yday by myself, havent read anything, and only talked to one friend abt it so far, but initial reaction: i really liked it. at first i was kind of ”yawn white feminism” “yawn voyeuristic dom fantasy” but i liked the grayness of it and how clumsy their sub dom relationship was at first. that felt honest and funny. and though i guess the sex was important to the movie, it wasn’t really about that. ultimately, it seemed that puritanism and corporate feminism and the masking it encourages became the villain. and that i can get behind. i look forward to watching it again or hearing from others and seeing how my perspective changes. also i’ll watch nicole kidman in anything really and the shots of harrison dickinson in the tank w the little gold chain is my kinda female gaze.

I am by no means traditionally religious, but I fully understand how being in the presence of beautiful stained glass can feel like being with god. ALWAYS stop off at a church on the way if you think it might have good stained glass. The bluebells in the bottom right corner of this made me loose my breath for a moment.
