holy shit rock climbing is so overrated and even my rock climbing sibling (who holds a degree in agro ecology from the university of vermont if that puts things in perspective) agrees. i did it a couple of times cuz some friends told me that the sport is similar to solving puzzles and i assumed i would just love that sort of thing cuz i'm an """intellectual""". well, "solving puzzles" with your body sounds like fun but what's even better is just doing heavy ass compound lifts at your local gym. forget about "solving puzzles", the only "puzzle" you'll need to "solve" is this one: "how do i lift twice my body weight off the floor?" and the answer will be quite simple (just lift it) but actually going through with it is a different matter and takes a form of mental sharpness entirely separate from intelligence: willpower. God cares as much for a moment as He does an hour and let me tell you the endorphin high you get from performing an exercise which is so intense and heavy you can only do it ONCE per day is so euphoric that you'll believe me when i say that these rock climbers must have some kind of hormonal imbalance if this is seriously their preferred form of exercise. one of my best friends is currently focusing on rock climbing because climbers "tend to have the best physiques"--which is true if you think having no legs, ass, chest, or abs looks good. i hope this man sees the light soon.

If you’re from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Don’t! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, it’s worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

I have another indie theater that I prefer because it’s cozier, has better vibes, is much closer to me, and everybody who works there is genuinely passionate about film. It’s not really anything special visually but it’s a beautiful institution and it’s so fun to be there ❤️ But this one is an old art deco theatre designed by architect John Eberson (he designed Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx and the Paradise Theatre in Chicago)! It’s pretty run down/poorly managed and staffed but it’s a gorgeous building and definitely worth visiting. Not my photos but included for illustrative purposes!!

Again, I'm using this category as an umbrella so I can list my favorite movies that I think by watching will make everyone's life better or at least distract you from whatever bullshit is going on in your own life for a moment, and put a smile on your face. Maybe you'll even relate to what the characters in the films are going through and you'll feel a little bit less alone and it will change your life forever. These are my favorite movies that I watch over and over again: An Unmarried Woman, Swingers, Annie Hall, Broken English, Girlfriends. Last Days of Disco, and Hannah and Her Sisters. And one of my favorite theaters to watch movies in in New York City is Metrograph. A sanctuary. A safe haven. The programming is extraordinary. And they have a wonderful restaurant upstairs called The Commissary. Run don't walk.

in europe (i lived in germany for a month btw :p) you can wake up, ride your bike 2 blocks away from your house, and pick up fresh baked goods--in america, you can drive your car 20 minutes to the nearest supermarket and buy shitty ass processed ass croissants that were shipped to your local market on a truck. but if you pop them in the toaster and eat them with some good jam (i'm partial to trappist blueberry preserves, thank you father 🧎‍♂️‍➡️🤲📿) it doesn't even matter. if you're a gymgoer like myself it's pretty good first thing cuz all those carbs get your cells flush with glycogen ykwim

back in november i was explaining to my therapist a very common anxious thought pattern i have where i convince myself that people i pass on the street are judging me or secretly having a conversation about me and he told me i might want to consider starting a course of antidepressants. this didn't make me feel crestfallen, quite the opposite--i have a serious anxiety disorder and it was comforting to hear that the best solution for me might be chemical, but for several reasons ssris were and are a last resort. my second to last resort? a psilocybin microdosing regimen! i can't say it helped all that much, but it did make a difference when i needed it. a buddy once told me about a trip he had off 5g of shrooms. he felt his sense of self dissolve and suddenly he was one with the world. then he sobered up and concluded that he didn't get anything out of that trip which you can't get out of lower doses. the same can be said for my experience of microdoses. whether it's .5g or 5g the fungus will help you. i tried out an acid microdose the other day and i think i prefer it--psilocybin had the potential for anxiety, bodily discomfort, and muddled thoughts, acid felt clear, energetic, and more extroverted. these substances are known to be physically benign, and while higher dose trips are known to be mentally dangerous, these low doses can only be beneficial. it's ultimately just fun, and having fun is often therapeutic. in the spring i think i'll take a small dose of shrooms and hang out at the park on the weekends.
