a messy & intimate look at my chemical romance in their revenge era catching them between new jersey basements & future arena rock superstardom . the band is funny & sweet & gross in about equal measure , they clearly all love each other a lot + there’s some great performances in there as well .
it’s definitely a bit harrowing to see gerard’s alcoholism on full display , but as a portrait of the band it gives a lot of context to how the band was formed , why they became the standard bearers for 2000’s emo , why they would eventually break up (& come back together) .
for a double feature i’d recommend following this up with ‘the black parade is dead’ to see them at their absolute (2000’s) peak
