this book fit my specific interests very well. It follows two young soldiers and their relationship throughout WWI. It was quite beautiful imo

I know a book is good if I’m tearing up. And this one did just that. Very sad. Very beautiful. Very heartbreaking. Written from the a journaling perspective of the main character who’s mentally disabled and becomes the perfect candidate for a surgery that allows him to be a functioning member to society and experience life from a new perspective.

This book is a chronicle of the author’s life in the year after her husband unexpectedly passes away while their daughter is in a coma. I also happened to read this at a time in my life when I had recently: a.) gotten married b.) learned a friend was dying Seems like a bummer from the summary above, and the content is definitely heavy, but this book really spoke to me at a time in my life when I was feeling a little lost amidst some big life changes. I recommend it to a lot of my friends after they get married - there’s some really great reflections on how amazing it is to share your life with someone, and the ways that you’ll miss them when they’re gone.  I’d always enjoyed reading, but this was the first time that I experienced one of those magical moments when a piece of literature, a movie, etc. can line up perfectly with your life and help you work through some of the things that are happening to and around you.

- I don’t know if this counts slash if it will help but I have been highlighting so much of The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller and for me it has done wonders to teach me to process and work through grief its proximity to love - Romance novels if you need something less heavy: Divine Rivals, Honey & Spice, Love Theoretically - Hanif Abdurraqib once posted the below on instagram and it’s so beautiful !!

I read this in high school. It’s about two sisters from West Africa and follows their different family trees up until the present. I thought it was pretty interesting!
