Fascinating grungy cyberpunk mystery set in the metro system of dystopian Budapest. The main character is a ticket-inspector investigating a phantom who pushes people on the tracks. I've been using this metro system all my life, though it has been renovated last year. Pretty much everyone who goes there comes out with a lot of questions and a great story. The film captures that really well.

Went to see this at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn on 35mm. Figured I’d go check it out cause I wasn’t familiar with it and it has Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, two of the most commanding actors to ever grace the screen. One of the most bizarre, but entertaining movies I’ve ever seen. It almost feels like a parody of the y2k/cyberpunk/police procedural movies in the post-irony era, but it’s so hammy that it manages to charm you over by the end. Russell Crowe basically plays mecha-evil incarnate. In one scene, he holds a rave hostage and makes them scream in certain octaves so he can orchestrate and remix the sounds on a soundboard like a DJ. That’s somehow not the craziest thing that happens in this film, but it’s the coolest.

As an improviser and gamemaster myself he's my favorite celebrity right now. Of course he's a very experienced comic, but also I feel like his secret is that he studied philosophy and writing -both essential in the field. Just an overall eloquent and wise person. Most of his stuff is on Dropout, which is easily my favorite streaming service. It mostly has unscripted comedy -and game shows.

I bought this in London at the Watkins Books shop last august. This is the deck I learned to do readings with and I'm still using it.
