sustainable seafood place in DUMBO! their seafood offerings rotate as they chose sustainable options per season, they have great drinks, and the outdoor seating is cute, with lots of shade. afterwards, walk to Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and enjoy it at Brooklyn Bridge Park / Pier 1 :)
i also made recs for some places in manhattan here: š½ļø a few random picks!

TandemĀ - popular spot for coffee and baked stuff. Very good.Ā SmallsĀ - chill little cafe for coffee and drinks.Ā Washington Ave strip -- lots of good stuff here.Ā Kombucha,Ā sandwiches,Ā Vietnamese,Ā ice cream,Ā mexican/barbecue spotĀ named after cool Texas border town Terlingua, lots more if you just walk around.Ā Washington BathsĀ - no joke one of my favorite places ever? Guy lived in a trailer on this property and saved his money. He had spent some time in one the Nordic countries (I think Finland) and got obsessed with the sauna culture. Built his own. Really well done. gender separate saunas (naked optional) and communal hot outdoor pool, cold plunge, good snacks/food and light nordic/german beers, wine etc.Ā The salmon soup was great.
The ShopĀ - also on Washington Ave, but deserves its own callout.Ā oysters, tinned fish, day drinking, sun, picnic tables. All things that are good.Ā
Honey PawĀ - amazing food, kinda Thai, kinda Japanese. Drinks are also very good.Ā Central ProvisionsĀ - a little fancier, haven't been but have only heard good things.Ā Banh AppetitĀ - fat ass banh mi sandwhiches.Ā Duck FatĀ - solid bar food. good fries.Ā Mackworth Island - nice spot for a stroll or a run. Also don't miss theĀ pet cemeteryĀ for former Governor Baxter's dogs (and I think a horse?).Ā
Something about Red Hook feels like a small east coast port town and Iām addicted to it
Elite rec is asking Foodtown to shuck oysters for you and sitting along the water to eat them
Havenāt been to Portland in years so hopefully this is all still relevant. Itās an incredible food town:
- Duck Fat for fries and milkshakes
- Holy Donut
- Mount Desert Island Ice Cream
- lobster role at that basic place on the water. I forget the name but remember it being very good.
- there was an arcade bar called Arcadia that was pretty fun, not sure if still there
being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and itās actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic youāre passionate about
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKERāS DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. š„³
unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!!
if you donāt have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIOās page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. thereās always more power in a union!! āš„š¹
