I hadn't read a novel in about 45 years (I only care about stuff that is true) but I absolutely fell in love with this book and truly could not put it down. Nolan's novel is about obsession, sex, love and booze and boy addiction-- all the hits. I've never brought a book (or myself) onto the elliptical, but cut to me last month at Equinox absolutely devouring this book while taking little slidey steps to and fro. By the way, last week I saw a girl on the treadmill with her hair down?????? Someone send an ambulance!

read this book!!!!!!! Its about a former famous singer whos addicted to heroin who ends up taking ayuashca (a powerful psychedellic) as a final attempt to get clean. Its the most compelling thing I’ve ever read and its a true story!!!! you should also listen to Thursday, which is the writers’ band

This nineteen seventies memoir by Barbara Gordon recalls her addiction to Valium and subsequent break with reality in a breezy second-wave feminist tone that, while not politically correct exactly, sets the stage for the kind of female confessional culture that I slid into. It’s a sad book, a funny book, a book you may want to read if only to understand where the upwardly mobile went to lunch in New York in the late nineteen seventies.
