we are hanging out and trying to do work but we keep chatting and reacting to the things we're working on. whispering is hilarious because while I may be talking more quietly than my average chatting volume, the timbre of my whisper cuts through the air and seems to have a more distracting effect on sitters-by, but like, i'm sorry!! it's saucy and fun to whisper!! what can I say!!

it's great to write things (but it's even more fun to whisper a saucy little secret on the side...)

Im afraid I know way too much about the people who occupy the same spaces as me. Not only is it entertaining but it’s also quite, connecting? I feel like its a good way to practice sympathy. And if the conversation is interesting and not obviously private, you can join in! Although the drama can be very interesting I can’t help myself, please, continue with the story of your shitty Boyfriend! Especially helpful for a writer, I’ve taken immense inspiration from strangers…

i was at an amish furniture store the other day and the girls at the register were discussing the kate middleton drama and i hid behind a cabinet listening in on their theories and nodding. i probs couldve joined in on the gossip sesh but it was more fun to browse around and smell candles while a live celebrity gossip podcast was happening right in front of me !

I know slavoj zizek is a fucking loser now, but his movie A Pervert's Guide to Ideology was the first piece of media that began to rub away the sheen/shellac of pretense that the world operates smoothly. It was my first time really engaging with a Marxian analysis and sitting with it. I was in high school, and it set me up to care about critical theory. From this movie, I'd read Mark Fisher's really quick book "Capitalist Realism: is there no alternative?" Fisher grounds a lot of his theory in culture/media in a very similar way to Zizek. After that, I'd follow recommendations made by others in the thread!

1. Scroll the "everyone" feed (almost completely ignore that home/friends page) 2. Like gratuitously 3. Follow people who post things you like 4. I try to be brave and comment when feeling moved I don't search or look for anything in particular, personally, unless I'm about to post something and curious if others have done so already. Just let the river float by and enjoy the ride
