Cigarettes and red wine on a Juliette balcony, regular visits to beautiful art museums, jazz bars and cafes and restaurants, spending hours at a time in Shakespeare and co. Not to mention how just generally gorgeous the city is! Alternately, Southern Italy. Long, lazy days by the beach interrupted only by Italian food and gelato. Cocktails and Italian music in the evenings, and then falling asleep tipsy under the stars on the sun-lounger that lives on my balcony.

The vintage shopping is pretty great in both cities. I remember Epoca in Florence and Twice in Trastevere. Walking around Trastevere is cool as hell. Taverna Trilussa had delicious pasta and Roscioli was great for a mid-day bite Drink lots of coffee and wine! Even the gas stations have good espresso. If you have time, stop through Siena. Thought it was such a mysterious city with spooky nooks and winding maze-like streets. Half fort, half village.

Video someone you love whilst they talk. Record the sound of the birds singing at your grandparents’ house, the sound of traffic in the distance. Write about literally anything, or even just make notes of what you think. Make shitty art, whether it’s poetry or painting or music. One day, you’ll be glad that you have more than just photos to remember your life by; there’ll be evidence you lived.

Not in a creepy way. I love looking at what they’ve got sat in their windowsill, and imagining the kind of person that stuff would belong to. Picturing the layout, and wondering if I’ll ever live somewhere similar, and whether they like it or not. I often find myself getting carried away trying to envision myself living in that place, in that location, even going as far as to imagine a career and social circles and a morning routine for myself, only to be jolted back to reality when I see the sillouhette of the inhabitant, the vague and shadowy suggestion of a real life person rather than some sort of self-insert. If I’m caught staring, I try to give them a look that says ā€œyou’d really benefit from investing in a pair of curtains,ā€.
