Every book has its own smell, but library books have a specific undertone that I can't quite put my finger on. An amalgamation of all the places they've been. A reminder of all the readers who came before me.

The descriptions of smells in books is something that always sticks out to me. In Don Quixote, for example, it’s the chivalric scent of ambergris; in One Hundred Years of Solitude, the smell of Colonel Aureliano BuendΓa’s lavender-perfumed moustache lingers on the page. At the university library, I would often be blanketed by the warm, woody aroma of oud whenever a Muslim student walked past my desk. Smelling good makes you identifiable, it helps you feel confident, and it pleases everyone around you

Something about the way clothes smell after being stored away for a while is like huffing straight nostalgia

Wes Anderson wrote it best when he said "its the smells we finally don't forget" (or something like that). No better, nostalgic, melancholy rush than when a random coffee smells exactly the same as one from your favorite cafe from years ago. Or when hand soap at a restaurant smells just like her. Such a crazy experience and I cherish each time it happens

I'm a July baby. Growing up, I spent most of my birthdays alone. Some years because my friends had left the country. Some years because I'd left the country. Some years because I had no friends. And with every year passing, the pressure to spend my birthday surrounded by friends and family and to have a good time increased. Every year I felt like a failure when I couldn't make it happen. So I stopped telling people it's my birthday. But today is my 28th birthday.

I hadn't seen my friend since New Year's Eve. Now it was October, her wedding day, and she barely gave me the chance to gush over her gorgeous dress, her makeup, her jewelry. "You look happier," she said. "Your energy has changed. It's much calmer now. I'm happy for you." I love her for taking the time out of her special day to notice me like that.

"If the two of you are so good together, why don't you make a move?" my friend asked me in a dream about the guy I was ever so slowly falling for. Those words echoed through my mind for months, from the first date till the final breakup.
