Magnum photo masterclass courses are pretty heat, especially the gregory halpern one I also won a year on normal masterclass before and really enjoyed all of their series. There is one on negotiation and communication by this famous hostage negotiation guy for the FBI and it was super sick.

In 2018, my Grandpa moved in with my family for a couple months and he forgot a bunch of his stuff when he moved out. He left behind a stack of these self defense DVDs he owned made by this company called Fight Fast. They’re some of the sickest things I’ve ever seen. They all have these crazy titles like ā€œKrav Maga: The Israeli Connection,ā€ ā€œCombat Tai Chi,ā€ and ā€œAmerican Bad Ass Survival Guideā€ (that one comes with a lockpick set). The best DVD that I unfortunately lost when I was moving was this one about tactical knife throwing. I wish I remembered the title, it was amazing. The presenter is this overweight middle aged man with the wildest bald ponytail I’ve ever seen. The thing that really got me about this one is how he talks about being ex special ops and he has to blur his face because the government doesn’t want him revealing these knife throwing tips. The whole video he’s got his voice deepened like darth vader too, It’s incredible. If anybody finds this please reach out to me. I need to see this again.

my favourite comfort genre. Some of these are actual heist films, some of them feeeeel like heist films if you know what I mean? Soderbergh is the heist king with: Oceans 11 (and 12 and 13 and 8) Logan lucky Kimi Magic Mike like technically isn’t a heist film but people pulling together to make a plan against the odds and directed by Soderbergh just feels one. I also think Sorkin films always feel heisty even when they aren’t. People talking fast and making plans is what makes a heist great, but Molly’s game is the closest to an actual heist film And it’s one of my favs. the film that first got me into Heist films was Entrapment, and then The Great Escape (although is an escape film a heist film…probably not?) Other greats, some take ā€œheistā€ more or less literally than others! - American Hustle Hustlers The Big Short Fantastic Mr Fox

Not the only one to rec this (obviously if you’re scrolling), but it’s one I’ve looked to a lot while working on some heist movie scripts. I think it’s perfectly structured, and I have a whole email in my archives where I break down exactly how it operates for reference. I even own a DVD
