Began watching 'Wildfire' as a past horse girl (side note: it's a great show- drama and music wise... includes early performances of James Blunt, Katy Perry and many more). Adore horses and riding but lived in London all my life and hence riding being wildly expensive was never a passion I could pursue as I wished to. And I suppose over time it became cemented as something I COULDN'T do. But fear not, as an adult, my income is for me to spend as I choose (thankfully, I have no dependents), hence am going to take up horseriding again on my own terms. And I hope it'll make me happy. SO really, I suppose this rec is just to say to anyone who couldn't afford a hobby once, that doesn't mean you can't now or won't in the future. Buy that easel, get some good paints, buy that piano (second hand, we haven't won the lottery... yet.), take music lessons, try a new sport, take that cookery course.. the opportunities and possibilities are endless. Hmm. Perhaps not yachting...

As I get older I get more self aware. I try to understand what I really like and what to make time for. If there’s something you loved and then strayed away from because you made new friends or moved to a new place, find time to pick whatever that is back up. Go dust off the old guitar and look up youtube tutorials and get back into it. Btw this actually leads me into my next rec…

I finally started getting back in to the hobbies I once loved. I have spent so long just waking up, going through the motions, and then waiting to fall back asleep again to do it all over the next day. I have found so much enjoyment in spending time doing the things I love. So this is your reminder to pick back up the things that bring you happiness. Whether that be journaling, crocheting, knitting, biking, swimming, people-watching, or any strange thing that makes your heart happy! Don’t just be alive, wake up and actually LIVE the life you want to live.

once you turn 26-ish it seems like you're assigned an Adult Hobby, which usually falls into either rock climbing, ceramics, or pickleball. it's great to start a new craft and sticking to it and mastering it. but sometimes there's something in the past with unfinished business. about 8 months ago i started violin lessons again, after a 6 year break in playing, which was preceded by about 12 years of violin lessons/experience. it sucks going back to something you used to be good at and not getting the "just like riding a bike" feeling, but it feels great to know that you are feeling like you're going to be able to master something you dedicated a large part of your life to. if you're someone who has picked up a lot of hobbies but never followed through, it's never too late.

for many many reasons: one hilarious franchise, many excellent indie flicks, an ethereal girlfriend, general looks... but MOST NOTABLY in recent days the fact that he somewhat caused the making of Oppenheimer as gave Christopher Nolan a copy of American Prometheus as a wrap gift on Tenet. mentalism.
