So I had a 1st gen Ipad when I was 8 and there was this app called "Tap Tap Revenge". It was a guitar hero/piano tiles kind of game. 1 of the 3 songs available to select was Linkin Park's "Waiting for the End". Track started and I was fucking addicted. I felt like a rockstar tapping away with my grubby little thumbs on this one song for hours on end. There was no song up to this point that was this stimulating since I had heard "Move Along" by the All America Rejects roll into the end credits of "She's The Man". It was at this very moment that I had decided to make listening/downloading music one of my main hobbies alongside playing Nintendo DS. I'd seek out music in hopes to achieve that same high I did when I was but a boy. As of right now, still chasing that high.

There is one crucial card I feel that must be tacked on to the list of Eno's Oblique Strategies: "Trap yourself in a greenroom between soundcheck and showtime...now await insanity, results, or both". Time and time again our band finds itself in this state of limbo, but one of my favorite new greenroom pastimes is commandeering the Spotify lyrics page of any song and turning into a chaotic Akai sampler. You essentially just need to click on the lyrics wherever on the song page and it will play the song at that exact point...feel free to get real wild with it and start doing 16th note taps on the lyrics all over the place lol...You'll soon realize that you can basically become a Kirkland's version of Fred Again overnight. I do feel like this technique is gonna catch on lol...you heard it here first!

one last app I let myself open to put on a song, change up the vibe, and get up to do real life shit. usually feels productive and lets me have one more sip of that digital dopamine

It’s like capturing a Pokémon. There is not much control or insularity in this world but when that song ends and the next one plays, there is nothing like the rush of stealing a new piece of sound to keep as your own 🫶

At the height of my angst and a time where I wanted to escape via music so badly lol. This record did just that for me and listened to it through and through. I have “The O.C.” to thank for introducing me to Modest Mouse.
