Annie hamilton’s lip filler review is my personal fave version of this I’ve read (linked), I’m also rereading and re-enjoying Lauren oyler’s longer form piece about the goop cruise from Harper’s last year. (As I type this I realize both articles also are about nonmonogamy, this is not pointed I promise)

the critics at large podcast at the new yorker is a great way to think deeply about cultural phenomena including books if you’re looking for perspectives outside of the academy and low-effort. similarly, rita felski’s work is so engaging and her book ā€œhookedā€ is a fun fresh read— basically analyzing different kinds of emotional attachments to various pieces of media. i get a copy of the new york review of books every so often and its a nice way to learn about authors and books. more academic/theoretical route: n+ 1

Idk with algorithms and influencers constantly pushing us to buy stuff it's nice to ignore all that and just keep your money and not buy junk you don't need! Get your amazon storefront outta here!
