Is my favourite documentary in the world. Stylishly directed in black and white by Bennett Miller (best known for Capote and Moneyball), it circles around the magnificently exuberant existence of the playwright turned apple city tour guide Timothy "Speed" Levitch as he muses on the city of NY on and off his double decker bus. I have a tendency to let my frustrations of the world to clench my muscles up and this is the film equivalent of a lump of mdma to melt my heart back open again with every rewatch. A poet can have an intense love affair with a bridge and a great poet can word it in a way that convinces you that they're not mad; or that even if they are, they are mad in the exact way life is supposed to be experienced in the first place. A must-see for anyone who holds a warm spot in their heart for the insomniac city, or at least what it once could be through the eyes of an intensely intuned romantic eccentric.
I have so many options depending on what you are into. Grey Gardens (1975) is a must watch, it's totally insane and nonsensical but wildly entertaining. The Jinx (2020) is shocking (true crime-ish), a bit slow at the beginning, but takes insane twists. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) is something I was not expecting to like, but the people in it are hysterical and interesting.
Authors sometimes have their own dedicated subreddits where people are constantly discussing a text but if your reading a really specific book someone may do a writeup in r/books and if not probably some discussion on goodreads (as annoying as goods reads is)
I like watching certain booktubers Tokyochemist is one of my favorites but theres a lot of booktubers who post frequently about books so just search up book reviews on Youtube.
Iām in college so when Iām looking for something more analytical I go to my schools library page and search for any literary analysis stuff (these can get pretty technical sometimes). After watching X-men 97ā I found some really cool work on Rogue and repressed sexuality! I also found some interesting writing on Donnie Darko through here.
Hope this helps š
