It’s my voice but it’s definitely not me because she refers to me. For instance when I need to get up in the morning it’s like “dude you have to get up you have so much to do and you can’t afford to have a late start.” In other words, it’s never coming through in the first person. So it’s like someone with my voice constantly talking to me I guess. She’s cool though, a little judgy at times, but really fucking funny and I couldn’t imagine living my life without her tbh. The biggest con to an internal monologue in my experience is that I can’t shut it off. And you can’t really ignore it because it’s in your head. It’s insane to me that people don’t have internal monologues, though. Like y’all are just thinking on mute? There’s no one else up there?

so about half the time my "internal monologue" is my own voice giving myself instructions (ex. "ok, i have ten minutes to spare. what should i do? i think i'm gonna pull up pi.fyi and look at posts until i have to get back to work."). it's not literally me listening to my own voice because i am conceptualizing the voice much faster than i (or any human) is capable of speaking, but it definitely coherently exists in my head as a fleshy .mp3 file, and it is definitely my voice. the other half of the time i am simulating social scenarios in my head. there are a variety of scenarios where i do this: sometimes i am actually rehearsing for a real social situation that is actually going to happen, sometimes i'm merely preparing for the possibility of a social situation, sometimes i'm trying to do a post-mortem on a situation that has already occurred so i can think about how to improve, and sometimes i'm just talking to an imaginary adversary in my head in order to find and plug holes in my worldview / philosophy etc. adding the caveat that if i am alone (or merely think i am alone) the "internal" monologue / conversation frequently becomes an external one, and i am sometimes ambushed by my partner and / or roommates who occasionally hear me passionately arguing with an imaginary person and i've just kind of made peace with the fact that i am going to appear casually schizophrenic to anyone who catches me doing this because i genuinely believe that actively trying to rehearse conversations and arguments in advance is what helped me get over my debilitating introversion to the extent that i have

I don’t really have a distinct internal monologue and def don’t hear my thoughts in my own voice- I’m a twin and my sister does have an internal monologue in her own voice! But it’s hard to explain what shape thoughts take for me- thinking in Vibes or something 😎😎😎

I only use it to listen to my own voice. Like I literally just used it yesterday because during one of my work meetings, there was an echo and I kept hearing my voice after everything that I said, and my voice sounded so god-awful that I needed to like practice talking into my phone

When I got into college, I had this thing where I would pick a class crush and a class enemy for every class I was enrolled in. It was fun and a way to ensure I was actually going to class and not skipping (to impress your crush you have to say insightful things and seem smart so you keep up with the course reading/to be a good enemy, you have to be well versed in the course reading to make a good counter argument to whatever your enemy is yapping about). It’s always been fun and now as a Ph.D. student finishing up coursework, I am proud to say that I declared what might likely be my last class crush/enemy ever. This is all to say that recently I have been letting the crush/enemy paradigm bleed out into other aspects of my life and that I’d recommend it to others. If you wanna meet new people or make new friends, find a crush and enemy everywhere you go. Charm the crush, get into an argument with the enemy. It helps pass the time and you might fall into a friends to lovers or enemies to lovers dynamic which is always a good time.

I made the decision to "downgrade" to a flip phone and I genuinely think it is the best decision I've made in a long time. It's weirdly connected me to my inner-child. Which, in retrospect, I reckon I should have expected. The camera quality sucks in the best way, but I carry my Canon camera around too in case I need to capture something more important. I've been calling my friends more because T9 texting is a drag. Haha, I've been texting like "do u wanna c a movie l8er?" I talk to strangers more when I'm waiting in line, when I can't look something up. I've been writing questions in my journal because I can't look it up in the moment, I have to get onto the computer later in the day and satiate my ever-flighty mind. Don't get me wrong, it sucked at first, but the intrigue absolutely helped. It has just been a fun way to spend the summer I guess. Screen time is down, my boredom has breed creativity, and I feel far more present in the world. If you've been thinking about trading your smart phone in for a dumb phone, take this as a sign. I recommend it immensely.

Not sure how many other Doctor Who fans are on this site but I always thought the weeping angels were so baller. They hide in plain sight posing as these angel statues, but the moment your eyes are off them they try and get ya. I thought they were so scary as a kid and have a great affinity for them now.
