One of the things I love most in the world, that I’ve loved since I was a little boy, is that every Christmas I always get some halva. It's a Middle Eastern confection made from ground up sesame seeds and egg albumen into this heavenly candy. To this day, every Christmas, one of my kids gives me a chunk of halva, but I don't keep it in my house because I would just eat it all. I keep it in Sofia's house, and every once in a while I go and I take a little piece.

This is the best, especially the texture and how it crumbles into your mouth. Having it with butter and bread is lifechanging!

Great movie to kick off the new year, on at 9 PM on the 31st at the Studio Galande cinema in the 5th arrondissement, lots of fun and probably very nice people to meet. Come dressed up for extra fun. As a bonus, I believe it's the only theatre in the world that's been showing the movie weekly with actors since it first came out in 1975, so that's pretty cool !

If you’re from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Don’t! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, it’s worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

I have another indie theater that I prefer because it’s cozier, has better vibes, is much closer to me, and everybody who works there is genuinely passionate about film. It’s not really anything special visually but it’s a beautiful institution and it’s so fun to be there ❤️ But this one is an old art deco theatre designed by architect John Eberson (he designed Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx and the Paradise Theatre in Chicago)! It’s pretty run down/poorly managed and staffed but it’s a gorgeous building and definitely worth visiting. Not my photos but included for illustrative purposes!!

The most fun thing to do is to play with kids, be with a group of kids and just play with them and make up plays or stories. When I was younger I used to be a drama counselor: and I was in charge of about 9 boys, and I would always have so much fun with them, reading to them and doing treasure hunts.

20 years ago, I decided I wanted to have some of those Hawaiian shirts, but you couldn't buy them anymore. So I had a dozen Hawaiian shirts made by someone I knew who was a costume designer, and I used to wear them wherever I went. Over time, I would go to Brazil, for example, people would say, oh, he's wearing a Coppola shirt. People started calling them “Coppola shirts,” and they started to get popular again. As they got more popular, companies started to make them available to buy again.  Then, I started wearing dissimilar socks to see if that would become a trend too – I think they do sell socks in mixed pairs now. It turns out that there's a boys' school in England where the tradition is to wear the wrong socks; there was also a famous physicist who wore mixed socks. So I'm not the only one.

I never knew Charlie Kaufman had written a book until I found “Antkind” after searching for “solipsist making a movie of his own life” on Google. I figured, well, this book is going to explain my life to me, so I read the whole thing, and it was very funny. It's long, but people who read it really enjoy it. It has this man, this writer, who has a unique mind and after reading this book, my perception of my own life felt completely different than it used to. My life felt like a fantasy being written by Charlie Kaufman – so that was my experience with “Antkind.”
