Basically I'm a committee member for the film society at my uni. This semester (yah they switched from terms to semesters this academic year which has made my final year an interesting one to say the least) we decided that we would use Letterboxd showdowns to help us choose films.
A committee member chooses a showdown, members nominate films in the gc, the top 4 battle it out via an Instagram close friends story poll, and then we have a winner which we screen. - flawless
My showdown choice rn is Daughters of the Dust; Best Underseen Women-Directed Films.
The original rules were that 25000 logs was the limit. But I didn't know where to find how many people had logged a film so I kept the other rules (no Gerwig and no Coppola) and just kept it on a do I personally think the film is underseen. If so it could be included. It could also be included if I liked it.
rn the top 4 are; Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person, Bend It Like Beckham, Polite Society, and The People's Joker. I'll let you guys know what wins.
There were 34 films nominated in total. I've put them into a list and linked it below. I'm going to try and watch these, but if you have any recs that you think should join this list pls lmk. But yeah, tis an easy way to try and watch more films directed by women and non-binary people.
