Rec'd on 💿 10/18: WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN LISTENING TO?

Good at Falling and In the End It Always Does have quickly become comfort albums for me. The Japanese House’s music simultaneously makes me extremely hopeful and extremely existential. The perfect amount of sad to be, in my opinion. I can dance and cry at the same time which is my ideal dance party scenario. Amber’s lyrics are incredibly intelligent and I find myself wondering how she comes up with it all. Every listen to each song is like the the first time I’ve heard it. I can’t get enough!!! My favorite song by them is Follow My Girl, I listen to it like 5 times a day at least.

For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) by Japanese Breakfast

im already on my third listen of this this morning which is an upside of a short album but it’s soooooo good omg i actually listened to this on tuesday at a listening party with one of my friends but we ended up being the only people who came for it at the record shop but it was great anyway my top three songs so far are (not in order) 1. orlando in love 2. picture window 3. leda i just can’t get over how beautiful this album is and i can’t wait to see it live in june japanese breakfast is one of my favourite artists/bands and i love everything they do, they deserve so much more appreciation and recognition every album is a perfect and this one is no exception go give it a listen

The Japanese House - Chewing Cotton Wool EP

Every song on this release is great for different reasons, but “Dionne” has the line: Wishing that someone would film the way I’m looking at you right now, I want to watch it back and then kill myself. I’m almost never a fan of features in songs, and this is true for Justin Vernon’s feature in “Dionne”, but people love Bon Iver and the addition is completely inoffensive to me, so we’re cool.

listen to Inconsolable by katie gavin

It always amazes me when songwriters can capture life’s little miracles so effortlessly and Katie’s ability to do so often makes me well up. This is my favorite of the three (excellent) singles off her debut solo album What A Relief, what is sure to be one of the best releases of the year. Bonus points for fiddle and Amber Bain of the Japanese House on vocals.
