What happens if PI.FYI were to have 100x as many users?
Right now it is a beautiful thingâI offer that as a newbieânotable in part for the sense of smallness and intimacy.
I'm wondering how the dynamic shifts if things get way bigger and what kind of tweaks will need to be made to both handle that growth and keep the spirit of things as they are now.
This is less of a suggestion and more of a rumination on what may be a future challenge...
One way to keep things tight: more granular tools, such as a post-by-post permissions options for comments.
The poster would be able to define who can reply to their Ask or comment on their Rec, maybe selecting from three options: Anyone, Pro only, Friends only.
(My Opinion: All Recs should always be public â but interaction permissions should be editable.)
The goal with this wouldn't be to shut out users for the sake of control but to keep the conversation manageable â getting a thousand comments on a rec would just be awful.

And it also makes sense that having access to post permissions settings and other settings should only be for Pro users. If that's the business model then it has to be incentivized.
i guess you don't HAVE to use a rec as a rec, but maybe have a third option other than rec and ask. maybe just call it thoughts? for when you have a thought or a feeling that you want to share but it isn't a recommendation.
maybe having an anti-rec option under recs, too! like a drop down when you do choose to make a rec, you can choose to anti-rec. make sense??
lastly, having changing your email/password built into the settings. i ran into this the other day when i put my email in wrong and had to get ahold of you guys!!
- commenting on an ask rather than a whole rec replying (optional)
- more posts on the whatâs hot / whatâs rising â and more of a cycle through the posts throughout the day
- maybe a news feature? this is the only social media app it would be cool to see a âbreaking newsâ tidbit with just the highlights of whatâs going on in the world
- (day two of asking for light coloured backgrounds with dark text đđ»đđ»)
idk thanks for listening
I think itâd be useful and nice! E.g. someone asked for suggestions of what to do in my city, and Iâd like to be able to ask something like âwhat kind of stuff do you like doingâ before making my rec.
this is worthy of celebration:Â the lack of videoâautoplay video, noisy inane video, panicky video, algorithmic, dumb video, rabbit hole video, any videoâon pi.fyi is a good thing
