Self produced maximalist masterpiece from one of Japan’s most respected female musicians. It’s not that weird a rec I guess, but I never hear anyone talk about her, and for western standards the production is pretty strange. I wouldn’t know what genre to place it in, and I love that about it.
A great mix of ambient pop music, remixes, sound collages, more experimental tracks, and English covers of her songs. Definitely a hidden gem (also it was produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto who’s one of my favorite musicians ever)
a bubbly, girly, japanese synthpop album from the early 80s that wasn't on streaming until very recently! it's a little goofy sometimes but all in good fun and sonically it's very unique.
Ryuichi Sakamoto of Yellow Magic Orchestra had a big hand in the production and actually got married to Akiko Yano a bit after the album and they were together until he passed in 2023.
I am by no means traditionally religious, but I fully understand how being in the presence of beautiful stained glass can feel like being with god. ALWAYS stop off at a church on the way if you think it might have good stained glass. The bluebells in the bottom right corner of this made me loose my breath for a moment.
I used to be envious of people who had “MySpace friends” or “tumblr friends”. Now I have PI.FYI friends. Thank you capyboppy for your lovely letter and this illustration of a capybara and a mouse with fruit on our heads, it made me weirdly emotional ❤️
