Recommending this because I just watched it and was blown away. Kind of experimental, off-putting but realistic sci-fi, like a film length Twilight Sone episode starring Rock Hudson. Some gorgeous cinematography and a great reflection on what it means to live a fulfilling life.
Unlike the Tarkovsky version, this one doesnโt require 3 hours and an ego death to enjoy. Soderbergh is an auteur in his own right and at his most artistically assured here. Haunting, romantic, doomed. Beautifully threatening, like the swirling gases of an alien atmosphere. Also, lots of hot people.
The sound design, the shot choices, the almost sci-fi looking settings, Monica Vitti's performance as an archetypal modern subject, this movie has it all and more.
