There's never been a better setting for a pitch black noir gangster film than the slag heap wasteland of Northeast England in the 1970s. Caine miraculously finds a emotional center in an otherwise duplicitous, amoral bastard of anti-hero. If you catch the remastered version then I envy you.

Brad Pitt speaking in a dialect even his co-characters can't understand? Check. Wild & all over the place plot & writing to match that? Check. Some 10/10 perfromances all the way down to the dog? Check. Everyone needs to mix their arthouse film binging with the occasional quirk-piece, let me save you some time on the movie selection and make that decision for you โ€” watch Snatch.

Earnest, sexy, funny, moving; in sum, everything most movies are not today. One of many gems by Alan Parker & Co.
