I had never heard of this film until the other day, despite it coming out in 2004, starring Nicole Kidman, who is sporting the chicest of pixie cuts, and having an aesthetic/tone/vibe that lights up all my pleasure centres (shot in NYC, grey/pink colour palette, opens on a long tracking shot set to intense classical music).
I think the reason I hadn't heard about the film was because it was so marred in controversy at the time of release because of its subject matter. Without giving too much away, Nicole's character is a widow who meets a 10-year-old boy who tells her he is her dead husband. People were up in arms about the idea of adult Nicole potentially being in love with a child. That said, all the criticism felt like it was coming from people who had heard about the plot rather than actually having seen the film, which just so happens to be a soulful, sensitive and intelligent meditation on grief and love.

It stars Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet, and it's their acting debuts! Additionally, it's directed by Peter Jackson. If you're looking for a queer movie to cry to, here it is. I like to describe it as Dead Poets Society for lesbians.

It unlocked something crazy in my brain and not even in a sex way (although I read the linked article recently and wow I think this is where it gets its dark powers). I know everybody talks about Harris Dickinson shirtless dancing to Father Figure but itโs the everything else in the movie for me. Thank you mother Nicole Kidman for my life

Not the tube, not the train, the DLR is an "automated light metro system", according to the internet. Without doubt, the best form of transport in London. I extend my trip to and from work by like 20 mins just so I can ride it. It's kind of like going on a rollercoaster that never actually goes fast. I have seen children have transcendent experiences riding it. I have had transcendent experiences riding it. The train is DRIVERLESS?! The best bit is going through Canary Wharf when the sun is setting - the way the light hits all that glass and steel...I am absolutely CONVINCED Caroline Polachek got most of her inspo for her most recent album by riding the DLR.

The way she marries All American girl-ness with this intrinsic depth/soulfulness. She's always had it - it's why BRING IT ON goes so hard. Her Architectural Digest also shows she's just a nerdy little weirdo. KD is the best.
