It's obviously not the main theme of the movie, but the loneliness showcased through the protagonist, the neglect and violence she goes through, make it all the more brutal when you know the depicted loneliness is what motivates her to connect with these strange creatures, as she feels unwanted by the humans.
guillermo del toro's story telling in this is amazing. it's a perfect mix of fantasy and horror, all while being set in the reality of war. its just an iconic movie that i think everyone should watch at least once in their lives. honorable mention:
- aftersun: an a24 banger that i feel like people haven't watched yet. its the definition of a slow burn. made me feel too many emotions that i've neverrrr experienced after watching other movies
