Reclining “Lady Sasquatch”  First serious piece of art I ever bought. It is textural and just gorgeous - the "Lady Sasquatch" reclining in all her glory! This series was called Ladies Sasquatch and included life-like sculptures of these incredible creatures. About the Ladies Sasquatch art installation… “In an attempt to imagine different sexual currencies Ladies Sasquatch valorizes cellulite, dirty fingernails, tattoos, big butts, fangs, collectivity and collaboration. The creatures in Ladies Sasquatch marry popular culture, native iconography, and radical dyke culture to create a kind of queer utopian dream world.” Trucker Balls earring Allyson, along with artist Dierdre Logue are the creators of Killjoy’s Kastle: A Lesbian Feminist Haunted House - a haunted house dedicated to the scariness that is Lesbianism. It was amazing, creative, and funny. There was one room that had “dykes” smashing trucker balls. I bought this gold trucker balls dangling earring in the gift shop. It's one of my favourite pieces of jewelry to wear.

At the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library you can watch almost any theatrical production performed in New York City since 1970. Due to union laws, you can only watch a production once and must stay in the library’s viewing cubicles. Recently, I watched John C. Riley and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Sam Shepard’s True West. If you love theater, do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon watching an old production. I love theater and want new plays. I am imagining a burgeoning playwright creeping into the library to watch Meryl Streep in “Mouther Courage and Her Children” and going on to write their own Mother Courage (and casting me).

What I love about nyc is the infinite amount of screenings there are for all types of movies — I think of it as an event more than anything! Feels way more fulfilling than just catching a film that just came out at an amc or whatever. The theaters r so much more intimate! And then you’ll watch happy together 1997 and the colors will be so beautiful n bright and you’ll cry and feel the same way someone did after seeing it 20+ years ago!

My cats, Sad Jazz and Miss Vanjie. I have included a pic so you can know what I’m on about. I love their weird quirky personalities! They are strongly social, patient, and so different from each other. They give me so much joy - just look at them!

Now that all my costumes are at my home, I can reflect on the last 25 years of wearing them. This is my most prized costume, a piece Charlie Le Mindu made for a show he did in collaboration with Crazy Horse in Paris. Crazy Horse is a cabaret show of sexy dancers that all have the same body type – an idea of “perfection”, but Charlie turned them all into multi-boobed glorious hair creatures! After the show run was completed, he told me that I inspired this work and gave me a one-of-a-kind costume from the show. It has four parts - a cone shaped, long blonde hair wig, long blonde hair wings, a silicone multi-boob bra, and a silicone boob thong. I love it for its playful critique on body image. I love using it performatively as an absurd reinvention of a strip tease in four parts. You might know Charlie’s work from his recent collaboration with Doja Cat for Coachella. Her brilliant dancers were tearing it up in his long blond hair suits. Note: Mentioning that Charlie was “inspired by me” is not to show how great I am, or that people want to make unique pieces for me, but to show how we are inspired by each other. Through sharing we open up a community and find commonality and purpose.

I love Las Culturistas! It feels like hanging out with friends as I practice my active listening skills. Friends who love and critique culture with many cute and uncomfortable opinions. Realness and queerness!  I particularly love the recent episode “Rode Hard and Put Away Wet” with Harper Steele and Will Ferrell where they chat about their Netflix documentary Will & Harper. The doc is beautiful! A road trip that revitalized the relationship between the two friends after Harper's transition at 61. This film brilliantly and generously includes us in both struggles and joy, and focuses on so many topics - age, friendship, openness, privilege, mistakes, learning. This episode is next level - comedians showing vulnerability, grace, queerness, and still being funny and entertaining af!
