It's people you look up to, or are inspired by, who can be a litmus test for good taste. Most importantly, there’s my girlfriend, Madi. Everything she does is cool, and she doesn’t have a problem telling me if what I'm doing isn't (which is super helpful). Otherwise, Keanu Reeves, Corrine Day, Paul Newman and Mr. Armani are perennial muses.

The best $25 I spend every month. Literally pays for itself if you see one movie plus if I see a bad movie I don’t feel like I wasted money

If you’re from brooklyn or new york city or just moved here, i know, this is cliche. But i! Don’t! Care! The truffle popcorn is addicting, even if I'm farting for the rest of the movie, it’s worth it. Plus they have cute little trailers to gab about with your date or friend, but i also go alone because nobody tried to have small talk with you at the movies and you can just disassociate peacefully in blissful high-power air conditioning on a hot nyc summer day. They have guest curators on a monthly basis and do fun screenings of old flicks. Highly recommend it. Nitehawk > Alamo.

I have another indie theater that I prefer because it’s cozier, has better vibes, is much closer to me, and everybody who works there is genuinely passionate about film. It’s not really anything special visually but it’s a beautiful institution and it’s so fun to be there ❤️ But this one is an old art deco theatre designed by architect John Eberson (he designed Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx and the Paradise Theatre in Chicago)! It’s pretty run down/poorly managed and staffed but it’s a gorgeous building and definitely worth visiting. Not my photos but included for illustrative purposes!!

I grew up with a lot of people who went on to become Juggalos or Juggelettes. I’m not a fan of ICP’s music as much as I'm a fan of the whole culture of its fandom. It’s rare these days that there is a true, regionally-specific subculture. Actually, I didn’t realize it was so insular until I moved out of the midwest. The farther I got from home, the more time I'd spend at parties explaining the gathering and why ICP fans paint their faces. Oh, and what Faygo is.

There's this little tie shop in Budapest that sells hand-made ties in all sorts of silk patterns. It's a true old world experience. Once you enter, you’re shown ties buried away in white boxes perched on wooden shelves. It's a kind of product and experience you can’t find so much anymore.

I’ve always had a soft spot for demonology and the occult but it wasn’t until college, when I took a class with an extremely passionate Italian professor, that I read the Divine Comedy in depth. It’s incredible how this archaic text has so many parallels and parables that relate to modern life. There's a lot of lessons behind the allegories.
